About Me

I was born and raised in the midwest, in a suburb near Minneapolis. My parents' house bordered the woods out back, where I would play and day dream all sorts of stories. The woods led to a marsh and river, with a railroad bridge. At nights I would hear the barge whistle and watch on the opposite wall of my bedroom the floating shadows of the tree limbs cast by the barge's searchlight as it passed by.

In high school the art room was where I roosted in and stayed all day long -cutting other classes to paint and draw. On weekends I would make a regular pilgrimage to the comic book shop downtown and soak in all the best art that I could get my hands on.

Later I took up painting, printmaking and drawing at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design; earning a Bachelors Degree in Fine Art in 1985. Later that decade I spent three years getting my Master of Fine Arts Degree at UND Grand Forks, North Dakota (the flattest place on earth.)

San Francisco beckoned to me in the early 1990s as a new city to lose myself in. I made a point of becoming intimately familiar with all the restaurants and bars for the next four years. There was something distinctly different about going to the beach and watching the waves of the Pacific Ocean versus one of the 10,000 lakes in Minnesota -a deeper more primordial rhythm to the earth.

Marriage, two kids, another short stint living in Minnesota, divorce, and now I'm settled in the woods about 80 miles south of San Francisco. Trees and deer are my neighbors as I churn out page after page of comic book art -or diddle on the latest canvas. And when I'm not doing that I'm going on nature outings with my kids or playing softball with the locals.

Thanks for your attention.
